Toyota's 2024 Tundra was named the coveted "Truck of Texas” award at the annual Texas Truck Rodeo event. This marks the second time in three years Toyota’s full-size truck has taken top honors at the event.
"The Texas Auto Writers Association Truck of Texas award is a prestigious honor and the 2024 Toyota Tundra has truly earned the title," said Teia Collier, president of TAWA. "Tundra continues to impress and our members were excited to bestow the honor to this vehicle for a second time."
The 2024 Toyota Tundra is built on a boxed high-strength steel-ladder frame, comprising two main rails that run the length of the truck, cross members which connect the rails and gussets that reinforce the frame corners.
The all-new 2024 Grand Highlander earned first place in the Full-Size SUV category. Toyota Audio Multimedia also received a Feature Award while the Toyota i-Force MAX Turbocharged Hybrid earned the Best Powertrain Award.
Heavy Duty Frame
The 2024 Tundra frame is designed to deform crash impact in a controlled manner and helps protect occupants in the truck. It is one of the reasons why the Tundra was given the Truck of Texas honor for the second time in three years.
A new twin-turbo V6 and available twin-turbo hybrid engines offer plenty of torque power for hauling heavy equipment. The 2024 Tundra can tow up to 12,000 pounds and handle a payload of 1,940.
Driving Assist
Trailering is made easy through a groundbreaking Straight Path Assist system that automatically keeps the trailer in a straight line when reversing. Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control and selectable rear locker settings enhance the truck's off-road capabilities in difficult road conditions.
The Texas Auto Writers Association is a nonprofit association for automotive journalists dedicated to improving awareness in the industry. Founded in 1987, the organization has become one of the most influential and respected automotive associations in the United States.
This year's event saw 37 journalists converge for a two-day session to appraise the latest pickup trucks and SUVs from the world's top automakers.
Key attributes of the annual award include a potent powertrain, off-road capability, payload capacity, spacious interior and availability to purchase in Texas.
"We are thrilled to see the positive impact the Tundra continues to have on the truck segment and are honored that TAWA recognized the Toyota Tundra as the Truck of Texas for a second time," said Joe Moses, vice president of Toyota.
