The all-new Toyota Prius and Prius Prime have emerged as winners at the 2024 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards.

Both vehicles received "North American Car of the Year" laurels at an event co-hosted by prominent auto dealers and industry press associations. It is a second coveted title for the Prius and solidifies its place as a pioneer in hybrid technology and environment-friendly transportation.

"We are thrilled the NACTOY jurors agree that the all-new Prius and Prius Prime are exceptional vehicles. The unique combination of sexy styling and industry leading efficiency put Prius in a league on its own," said Mike Tripp, vice president of Toyota.

"After nearly 25 years, Prius continues to leave its mark on the world and offers customers a great option to reduce carbon emissions."

Prius models

The Prius has been revamped with elongated headlights, a low-slung roofline and muscular haunches to project its aerodynamic efficiency.

Base models come with 194 hp and 139 Ib-ft of torque. Prime variants have an upgraded plug-in hybrid powertrain for an output of 220 hp and 152 Ib-ft of torque.

Prius offers an EPA-estimated 57 mpg combined city/highway rating, while its plug-in hybrid counterpart delivers an electric-only range of 44 miles--19 more miles than its predecessor.

Interior Design

Interior amenities include a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen, panoramic glass roof and premium audio system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

A 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen provides access to Cloud Navigation, Destination Assist and Intelligence Assistant for controlling various functions through natural language commands.

Advanced driver-assistance technologies like lane departure alert with steering, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control and pre-collision system with pedestrian detection ensure a safe and confident driving experience.

Annual vehicle awards

The North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards are an illustrious set of accolades presented by a panel of professional automotive journalists. Organizers use the annual event to honor automakers who have made substantial strides in design, technology, safety and customer value.

Recipients of the 30th edition were announced after a 12-month evaluation process that included hundreds of hours of research and three rounds of voting by jurors.

“Our winners reflect the fact that a modern vehicle must be a combination of style, utility and technology. I commend our 50 jurors for coming up with some excellent choices,” said NACTOY president Jeff Gilbert.
