Summer isn’t over yet, and the Toyota 2022 Highlander can help you make more midsummer memories.
The 2022 Toyota Highlander delivers engine efficiency, a stylish interior and a gamut of safety assistive technologies. The 2022 lineup introduces the Bronze Edition hybrid, available in Cement, Wind Chill Pearl and Midnight Black Metallic body colors.
Additional features in this new trim package include 18-inch bronze wheels, bronze stitching, illuminated bronze door sills and unique mats embossed with a Highlander Hybrid Bronze Edition logo.
Under the Hood
Powered by an innovative D-4S direct injection system, the 3.5-liter V6 engine generates 295-hp and 263 Ib-ft of torque, with the Direct Shift 8-speed automatic transmission maximizing response and efficiency at all engine speeds.
Stop and Start technology reduces fuel consumption by shutting off the engine when the vehicle comes to a complete stop and instantly restarting it when the driver’s foot leaves the brake pedal.
Toyota’s Hybrid System combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, with the battery portable enough to be installed under the second-row seats without occupying cargo or passenger space.
It has a fully variable oil pump and cooling system that generates 243 hp and an EPA-estimated 36 combined MPG.
Comfort and Convenience
The 2022 Highlander comes with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa compatibility for smartphone integration.
There are also five charging ports for mobile devices and a 1200-watt 11-speaker top-tier audio system for listening to music and podcasts.
With all seat rows in use, the Highlander offers 16.0 cubic feet of carrying space behind the third row. The 60/40 split fold-seat backs increase the space to 48.4 cubic feet and a further 84.3 cubic feet with the second row raised.
A versatile cargo area makes the most of the Highlander’s additional length with strategically shaped side surfaces and pockets for maximum cargo space.
Sound-dampening materials are optimized throughout the vehicle to prevent outside noise interference from filtering into the cabin.
Safety
Available in all Toyota models is Toyota Safety Sense—a comprehensive suite of active safety systems with features of the entry-level trim of the 2022 Highlander including:
- Pre-collision System with Pedestrian Detection and enhanced with intersection support. The system detects oncoming vehicles and pedestrians at intersections when making a left-hand turn and promptly provides an audio/visual alert or automatic braking.
- Emergency Steering Assist stabilizes reflex steering maneuvers in emergency situations
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection offers automatic braking capability when a driver does not react in time.
The 2022 Highlander offers passenger protection from eight airbags including side curtain airbags for all three rows.
Extra features of Toyota’s Star Safety System include:
- Vehicle Stability Control
- Traction Control
- Electronic Brake-force Distribution
- Anti-lock Braking System
Hybrid models use the Dynamics Integrated Management system for brake and steering wheel control when swerving on slippery road surfaces.
