Toyota's 2024 Grand Highlander scores high with three powertrain alternatives, plush interior comfort and upgraded safety technology.
Storage area can transport 20.6 cubic feet of summer essentials with all three rows upright. A single-lever tilt-and-slide mechanism moves the second-row seat backs forward for easy access to a spacious adult-friendly third row.
Under the Hood
The all-new Grand Highlander has the most powertrain options in the large midsize SUV segment. For drivers looking to explore remote areas or drive on unpaved roads for long periods, Multi-Terrain Select is available on gas-engine AWDs and hybrid powertrains.
The base engine is a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with 265 hp and 310 Ib-ft of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission front-wheel drive or on-demand all-wheel drive options.
The Grand Highlander Hybrid offers a 2.5-liter engine mated with an electric motor capable of 245 hp.
The HYBRID MAX powertrain syncs a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with powerful electric motors to generate 362 hp and 400 Ib-ft of torque.
Comfort and Convenience
The 2024 Grand Highlander offers Toyota's new 12.3-inch multimedia infotainment system.
MMI interface is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa, in-built navigation, the "Hey Toyota" voice assistant and 11-speaker prime audio system.
Well-contoured adjustable front bucket seats offer long-distance drivers the right body balance and lumbar support. The center stack holds a standard wireless charger, two USB ports and three cupholders—big enough for a coffee thermos or large refillable water bottle for summer explorations.
On higher trims, a removable tray with cup holders, smartphone storage slot and underfloor cache is accessible to second-row passengers.
Third-row occupants get left-right individual USB ports, smartphone/tablet stash spot and two cupholders to stay hydrated in the sweltering heat.
Safety
Toyota's Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on the 2024 Grand Highlander. The TSS 3.0 collection of advanced driver assistance systems evolved from the TSS 2.5+ safety suite.
Safety suite adds the new Proactive Driving Assist system for distance control between a preceding vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist. PDA also gently slows down the car as it navigates a curve.
Traffic Jam Assist eases the stress of stop-and-go summer traffic by operating the steering, gas and brake pedals between 0-25 mph.
Other enhanced TSS 3.0 features from TSS 2.5+:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian and Daytime Bicyclist and Motorcyclist Detection
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Tracing Assist with Emergency Stop System with Driver Monitor
- Lane Keeping Assist with Steering Assist
- Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering
- Oncoming Vehicle Detection at Intersections
