All-New Toyota Tacoma Tackles Tough Roads

Toyota’s all-new 2025 Tacoma delivers two robust powertrains, a versatile cabin space and advanced safety tech for overland adventures.

This midsize truck has received several upgrades for the new model year to enhance performance and improve passenger comfort. It is available in SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, TRD Pro and Trailhunter trim levels.

The TRD Pro trim debuts in a new Mudbath color that adds a distinctive touch to the Tacoma lineup. Both the TRD Pro and Trailhunter models are equipped with easy-access red front tow hooks for vehicle recovery in challenging off-road conditions.

The hooks come with a secure attachment point for tow straps, ropes or shackles which makes it easier to recover the truck when stuck in mud, sand or rocky terrain.

Toyota’s latest Tacoma also has added a fourth pre-wired auxiliary switch. This seamless addition makes it easy to integrate off-road lights, winches and air compressors without cluttering the dashboard with extra switches.

A development particularly useful for off-roaders, overlanders and work-truckers that rely on multiple accessories for off-trail adventures or job site tasks.

Under the Hood

The 2025 Tacoma offers two engine options. A standard i-FORCE 2.4-liter engine produces 278 hp and 317 Ib-ft of torque for a combined fuel efficiency of 26 MPG. A six-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth transitioning gear shifts for off-road trails and hauling heavy cargo.

An optional i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine generates 326 hp and 465 torque output. The system is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that conserves fuel consumption. This enables the hybrid system to achieve an EPA estimated 24 MPG combined rating.

Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX engine comes standard on TRD Pro and Trailhunter. This top-performance powertrain also is available on TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and Limited models.

The Tacoma's CRAWL Control technology offers a low-speed cruise control system designed for optimal performance in off-road conditions. This tech allows the driver to concentrate on the steering while the truck automatically manages throttle and braking controls.

A Downhill Assist Control feature helps drivers maintain a moderate and steady speed when navigating descents. This off-road function also automatically engages the brakes when needed to prevent excessive acceleration on loose or slippery terrain.

Comfort and Convenience

The Tacoma’s 8-inch multimedia touchscreen serves as a central hub for vehicle settings and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A USB charging port is integrated on the right side of the display and complemented with dual ports for front and second-row passengers. Toyota’s Smart Key system with push-button start connects smartphones to vehicle entry, engine ignition and tailgate access.

An optional 12.4-inch customizable digital cluster provides essential driving data at a glance for high-end Tacoma models. It displays battery charge levels, fuel efficiency, navigation directions, off-road metrics and power distribution between the gas engine and electric motor.

Toyota’s XtraCab two-door configuration offers extra storage space behind the front seats and includes lockable storage compartments for keeping wallets, purses or other valuables. The space includes a 6-foot bed for carrying a tent, sleeping bags, camping chairs, barbecue grill and cooler stocked with cold drinks for a summer getaway.

The 2025 Tacoma offers a maximum towing capacity of 6,500 pounds. An available trailer brake controller helps maintain trailer stability on highways and steep terrain.

A Trailer Back Up Guide with Straight Path Assist technology also keeps the trailer in a straight line when reversing. An integrated system of sensors and cameras provides the driver with a 360-degree simulated view of the truck and trailer.

Also, engineers have fitted a new wireless trailer camera that provides a high-resolution view of the area behind the trailer. The camera helps with safe maneuvering and provides a better awareness of obstacles in tight spaces or off-road scenarios.

An all-new manual headlight leveling switch adjusts the Tacoma’s headlight angle to minimize glare for oncoming vehicles.

Safety

All Tacoma models come equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 which offers advanced driver-assistance aid and top-tier safety technologies.

This latest version improves on previous features with upgraded sensors, extra cameras and AI-powered detection for enhanced performance.

Features:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Automatic High Beams

The 2025 Tacoma also introduces Proactive Driving Assist as a new addition to the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite.

This semi-automated driving technology assists with braking and steering to help avoid potential collisions and reduce driver fatigue.
