"We prioritize crashworthiness scores, standard safety features, child-safety seat fitment and overall excellence," said a Cars.com editorial team member.

The 2026 Grand Highlander Hybrid stands out with exceptional fuel economy, a roomy three-row cabin and one of the best-in-class cargo capacities with all seats in use.

Notable highlights for the Car’s .com editorial team include a ceiling-mounted rear climate vent that delivers direct airflow to children in rear-facing car seats and a Panoramic View Monitor with underbody cameras.

This monitor enhances driver visibility when navigating tight parking spaces or unfamiliar travel destinations, while also minimizing the risk of undercarriage damage.

Hybrid trims include Hybrid LE, Hybrid XLE, Hybrid Limited, Hybrid Nightshade, Hybrid MAX Limited and Hybrid MAX Platinum. All trims retain the features of their gasoline counterparts with the additional benefit of improved fuel efficiency.

New Hybrid Addition

The Hybrid Nightshade Edition debuts for the new model year, adding a distinctive presence to the Grand Highlander Hybrid lineup. Engineers have added black 20-inch alloy wheels, black mirror caps, black door handles and a black rear spoiler.

The rear liftgate badging is blacked instead of traditional chrome. This blends in seamlessly with darker design elements and emphasizes the Nightshade’s sporty appearance.

Inside is a leather-trimmed steering wheel paired with black leather seats and a matte gray metallic interior that creates a modern cabin ambiance.

The features of the 2026 Hybrid Nightshade Grand Highlander include a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen, multiple USB ports across three rows, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a wireless charging pad and premium 11-speaker audio system.

Under the Hood

A standard hybrid powertrain pairs a 2.4-liter engine to produce 245 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque.

For those seeking extra performance, the Hybrid MAX boosts output to 362 hp and 400 Ib-ft of torque which enables the SUV to accelerate 0-60 mph in 6 seconds.

Hybrid MAX offers full-time AWD to continuously distribute power between the front and rear wheels. This system also enhances traction and on-road stability across a variety of driving conditions.

This base hybrid model achieves an EPA-estimated 37 city/34 highway MPG rating with a combination of gas engine and electric motors that provide excellent fuel conservation for family road trips.

The standard hybrid offers a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, while the Hybrid MAX tows up to 5,000 pounds for multiple bikes, boats and trailers for family outdoor adventures. All models come with selectable Sport, Eco and Normal drive modes that prioritize fuel efficiency, responsive acceleration and other optimal driving preferences.

AWD-equipped trims Hybrid MAX Limited and Platinum include Multi-Terrain Select for additional stability for on-road driving and light off-road conditions.

Comfort and Convenience

The standard features of the LE Hybrid trim include a 7-inch driver multi-information display, 12.3-inch infotainment system, eight-way power driver’s seat, four-way manual front passenger seat, three-zone automatic climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, multiple USB ports and a six-speaker boom box.

Toyota’s Platinum trim enhances comfort and convenience with a 12.3-inch driver multi-information display, 10-way power driver’s seat with memory and lumbar support, eight-way power front passenger seat, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless charging, a digital rearview mirror, seven USB ports and a panoramic sunroof.

The Platinum trim is equipped with three-zone automatic climate control that comes with separate temperature settings for the driver, front passenger and rear occupants. It includes an air filtration system, second-row control panel for backseat passengers and air vents for all rows to keep everyone comfortable and refreshed on long journeys.

The 2026 Grand Highlander Hybrid offers 97.5 cubic feet of cargo space with rear seats folded flat enough to accommodate seven carry-on suitcases even when the third row is in use. Acoustic glass on the windshield and front windows block out road and wind noise for easier conversations during extended trips.

Safety

Toyota’s 2026 Grand Highlander Hybrid is outfitted with a full range of safety and driver-assistance technologies to prevent accidents and assist the driver in different driving conditions.

Features:

  • Pre-Collision Warning with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

The SUV Hybrid introduces a fourth distance setting to its Full-Speed Range Dynamic Cruise Control.

This enhanced vehicle detection feature monitors multiple vehicles at a safe following distance as well as cars in adjacent lanes.

The Platinum trim offers an exclusive Traffic Jam Assist option that reduces the stop-and-go traffic stress by automatically controlling steering, acceleration and braking at speeds of 0–25.
