All 2018 Tacomas Get Safety Sense Update

Toyota doubled down on making the 2018 Tacoma safer than ever with the addition of Toyota Safety Sense P as standard equipment on all models while still retaining the rugged go-anywhere toughness that drivers have always loved about Toyota trucks.

Under the Hood

The 2018 Tacoma features two engine choices. A 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with dual overhead camshafts puts out 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. More power comes in the form of an Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque.

Both engines can be teamed with a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. V6 models can also be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Drivers opting for the available tow package can tow up to 6,800 pounds. Standard models come with rear-wheel-drive, while those looking for more off-road capability can upgrade to the four-wheel-drive system.

Comfort and Convenience

There’s no shortage of technology packed into the 2018 Tacoma. All come standard with some form of Toyota’s Entune multimedia system. Display screens range from 6.1 inches to 7 inches, and the top-of-the-line audio setup is a JBL six-speaker sound system and subwoofer for superior sound quality.

Drivers can sync their smartphones to the vehicles’ Entune systems for hands-free voice calls via Bluetooth, audio streaming and mobile app integration. The available navigation system gives turn-by-turn instructions and features HD predictive traffic and Doppler weather overlay.

Cabin noise is reduced by an acoustic windshield, sound-absorbing headliner and floor silencer pad. Some models feature fold-up rear seats with under-seat storage, and other have a 60/40 split fold-up rear seat for various seating and cargo storage configurations.

Toyota’s Safety Sense P is now standard on all models and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with sway warning, automatic high beams and high-speed dynamic radar cruise control.

Antilock disc brakes with brake assist stop the vehicle quickly, and a full set of airbags protects occupants in the event of a collision.
