4Runner Continues Legacy of Comfort, Off-Road Ability

Thirty four years ago the first 4Runner roamed the roadways. Over the decades, the 4Runner has improved in both comfort and toughness. The 2018 version features a Wilderness Package and the TRD Enhancement Package, further improving the 4Runner’s image as a versatile vehicle that’s fun to drive.

Under the Hood

The 2018 4Runner’s boasts a beefy 270-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 that puts out a stout 278 pound feet of torque through its 5-speed ECT-i automatic transmission. Sequential shift mode moves through the gears with ease. Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) produces the optimum torque across the engine’s entire operating range.

All 4Runner models can tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds, with a maximum 500-pound tongue weight.

Comfort and Convenience

The cargo area offers up to 47.2 cubic feet of carrying space with the second-row seats in use. Folding the second row opens up a substantial 89.7 cubic foot cargo area, ideal for those two-person getaways and weekend camping trips.

An available pull-out cargo deck carries up to 440 pounds and also offers seating for tailgating and relaxation. The 4Runner provides a standard 120V outlet and two 12V outlets for power on the go.

The 4Runner line features an array of Entune Multimedia system choices. The Entune App Suite is an array of popular mobile apps and data services. Connect a smartphone via Bluetooth or a USB cable and Entune’s features are operated using the vehicle’s controls. Entune offers mobile apps for iHeartRadio, Pandora, OpenTable, MovieTickets.com and others. A fuel price guide, stocks, traffic, sports scores and weather are among Entune’s data services offerings.


The 4Runner comes with Toyota’s standard Star Safety System that offers Vehicle Stability Control with traction control, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Brake System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Smart Stop Technology.

Eight standard airbags include the driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System protecting the thorax, abdomen and pelvis. There’s also front seat-mounted side airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags and all-row Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags.

An available Safety Connect system boasts Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Location, Emergency Assistance Button and Roadside Assistance.
