2019 Highlander Adds Exterior Flourishes, Offers Optional Blu-ray Player

Some fresh accessories finish the exterior of the 2019 Toyota Highlander, a midsize SUV built for adventure.

All versions of the 2109 feature black side rocker panels, while the Nightshade SE model receives flourishes like a shark fin antenna, black exterior door handles and black mirror caps. The Nightshade sits atop black 19-inch wheels and black lug nuts that complement the black headlights and fog lights. Chrome-trimmed LED fog lights accompany the Limited and Platinum packages.

Under the Hood

Buyers have a choice between three platforms when selecting a 2019 Toyota Highlander. The base model features front-wheel drive and a four-cylinder engine, while a 3.5-liter V6 is also available. V6 engines have the option of either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The 2.7-liter inline four-cylinder engine produces 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, whereas the burlier V6 cranks out 295 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed transmission pairs with the four-cylinder, while the six-cylinder platform utilizes an eight-speed transmission.

Comfort & Convenience

Five USB ports (three up front and two in the rear) make it easy for drivers and passengers to keep their devices charged and ready to go. The 2019 Toyota Highlander seats up to eight, and captain’s chairs for the second row is an available feature.

The 2019 Toyota Highlander offers a quieter ride than ever before, thanks to sound-dampening insulation in the floor and a windshield made of acoustic-type glass. These touches reduce road noise from entering the cabin.

The Platinum package boasts a panoramic moonroof, which welcomes light into the cabin and gives passengers a view of the sky.

Designed for long journeys, the 2019 Toyota Highlander includes the option of a Blu-ray player for the rear seat. Featuring a nine-inch screen, the Blu-ray player comes with a remote, RCA jacks and a pair of wireless headphones.

The 2019 Highlander includes the Star Safety System, Toyota’s suite of six active safety features. Star Safety System includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Brake Assist, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brakes and Smart Stop Technology, which can help quickly stop the SUV in an emergency.

Eight airbags come standard, as does a Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

The available Bird’s Eye View Camera helps drivers navigate tight spaces. This system includes Perimeter Scan, a technology that displays rotating 360-degree views in real time when parked.
